NEW BOOK ON BIRD FEEDING GIVES CHILDREN AND SENIOR CITIZENS LEARNING AND COGNITIVE BENEFITS
Birds Bring Joy and Excitement with a Hidden Well-Being

Kelley Manson, nature photographer, birder, and author of How to Learn You’re A, B, C’s With Help from
Mother Nature and Nature’s Corner calendar, publishes new book What Do I Feed the Birds? Easy Ways to
Attract Our Feathered Friends. This can be found on Amazon, Ingram Spark and the author website
kelleymanson.com.

What Do I Feed the Birds? explains the different kinds of seed and food to easily start feeding birds. A
great book for all ages, use as a teaching tool for children, as cognitive engagement for our older adults
or anyone looking to start a new hobby.

Author Quote: “Bird feeding is much more than finding joy in watching our feathered friends. It goes
deeper into the value of birds offering teaching tools and cognitive benefits for both children and senior
citizens.”

According to Kids and the Outdoors, “Birding as an introduction to biology: Birdwatching is an amazing
way to introduce children from an early age to biology. Once they start learning about how to identify
birds, they will want to learn more about the ecosystems they live in, the food chain, and much more.
Once they get to those topics in school, they will be leaps ahead of their peers and will be interested in
learning much more. Birding with kids can be the first step of an introduction to science for children.”

The Institute on Aging states, watching birds “Offers multiple cognitive benefits. It offers a range of
sensory stimulation and memory exercises for older adults. Observing small visual details, noticing
patterns in animal behavior, and listening closely to bird songs all help to engage your loved one’s brain.
These memory-related tasks enhance older adults’ reflex skills, mental alertness, and can even benefit
dementia.”

This 52-page book offers a simple, easy-to-hold layout with many color photos of birds that will visit your
feeders. See them eating seeds, suet, peanuts, grape jelly, oranges and sugar water. Bird feeding is a fun
way to bring joy into our lives, helping our winged companions not only survive, but thrive.
